Journal Entry
We enjoyed a nice breakfast visit with Jake and Fredrick at Corner Bakery yesterday. I try to get with Jake for breakfast at least once a week. I would love to do the same with Kevin and Adam but they are currently geographically unavailable. Sometimes it's just make and I at Del Taco but whenever possible we like to include Cathy. When that happens we usually go to Corner Bakery because they have menu items that Cathy can eat.
Didn't play pickleball because Art has Covid.
Today we hope to host Bob's wife, Kathy, who is visiting from Arizona, along with Beth and Karen. This will be lunch, I think, and I think we are bringing in tacos from "Smoked Tacos". Should be fun, especially for Cathy who is still recovering from her injuries from falling three weeks ago.
Come Follow Me
2 Nephi 32:3 Angels speak by the power of the Holy Ghost; wherefore, they speak the words of Christ. Wherefore, I said unto you, feast upon the words of Christ; for behold, the words of Christ will tell you all things what ye should do.
4 Wherefore, now after I have spoken these words, if ye cannot understand them it will be because ye ask not, neither do ye knock; wherefore, ye are not brought into the light, but must perish in the dark.
5 For behold, again I say unto you that if ye will enter in by the way, and receive the Holy Ghost, it will show unto you all things what ye should do.
7 And now I, Nephi, cannot say more; the Spirit stoppeth mine utterance, and I am left to mourn because of the unbelief, and the wickedness, and the ignorance, and the stiffneckedness of men; for they will not search knowledge, nor understand great knowledge, when it is given unto them in plainness, even as plain as word can be.
8 And now, my beloved brethren, I perceive that ye ponder still in your hearts; and it grieveth me that I must speak concerning this thing. For if ye would hearken unto the Spirit which teacheth a man to pray, ye would know that ye must pray; for the evil spirit teacheth not a man to pray, but teacheth him that he must not pray. 9 But behold, I say unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint; that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye shall pray unto the Father in the name of Christ, that he will consecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul.
"Prayerful inquiry through asking, seeking, and knocking entails both holy communication and consecrated work. The blessings we seek, such as inspiration and direction from our Heavenly Father, require some effort on our part before we can obtain them.
True faith is focused in the Lord Jesus Christ and His attributes as the Son of God and on His mission and ministry. Such faith always leads to righteous action. The Lectures on Faith state that “faith [is] the first principle in revealed religion, and the foundation of all righteousness” and that it is also “the principle of action in all intelligent beings." Action alone is not faith in the Savior, but acting in accordance with correct principles is a central component of faith. Thus, “faith without works is dead” (James 2:20).
We should be simultaneously persistent in and patient with this active process of asking, seeking, and knocking.
Note the perseverance in prayerful inquiry in the following selected scriptural examples.
- “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:12-13).
Discerning and accepting the will of God in our lives are fundamental elements of prayerful inquiry through asking, seeking, and knocking."
