Daily Vitals: Weight: 229.0, GMI6.6, Steps (previous day) 9,717

Journal Entry

I ate pretty poorly yesterday and that is reflected in my weight going up. I don't know why I don't think of this when I'm deciding what it goes to eat but I need to figure something out. I want to get back down to the 225 level and then maybe even 220.

We enjoyed serving in the Bishops Storehouse yesterday and I'm looking forward to my temple ordinance worker assignment today. I'm going to shoot for taking a substitute request one or maybe two times a month. The main concern is that I need to keep Cathy's needs in mind. We only have one car and she doesn't enjoy driving. So if I go to the temple without her she either is home without a car or she has to drive me there and pick me up. But she seems OK with me possibly substituting maybe once a month or so. I like to do that because occasionally I need a substitute and basically it's just a good thing to do.

I finally got the outdoor Christmas decorations done to my satisfaction. It's cold outside and I still have to get up on my step stool to get decorations above the door and the front archway. I got it done this year but I still have to take it down after Christmas. Next year I'll be just about 80 years old so I'm not sure about future decorations. We'll see. But actually I'm still fairly stable for an old man but that can change quickly.

Come Follow Me

When we partake of the Sacrament each week we are coven nting to take upon us the name of Jesus Christ. Why should we do that?

As King Benjamin taught: “I would that ye should take upon you the name of Christ. … Whosoever doeth this shall be found at the right hand of God, for he shall know the name by which he is called; for he shall be called by the name of Christ” (Mosiah 5:8–9).

I'm not knowledgeable on the totality of why we should take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ but it seems clear that it is a very important and positive thing for us to do. And I will personally be thinking and pondering about this much more in the future.

"We abide in Him by preparing earnestly to participate in the ordinance of the sacrament, reviewing and reflecting on our covenant promises, and repenting sincerely. Worthily partaking of the sacrament is a witness to God that we are willing to take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ and strive to “always remember him” after the brief period of time required to participate in that sacred ordinance."

Elder David A. Bednar Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, April 2023
