Journal Entry

The weather is very nice lately and that's great.

Our grandson, Blake, has been suffering from a serious form of leukemia which has him on the verge of passing away. This poor guy, Kevin's 17 year old son, has been in and out of hospitals for months - mostly in, I'm sorry to say. Yesterday he stopped breathing for a short period of time but fortunately be was in the right place with accomplished medical personnel present and they were able to take care of the problem, at least for now.

Kevin and Kim have divorced and that certainly exacerbates the situation.

We only get one side of their story but I know Kevin and what a truly good person he is. His marriage has been mostly shaky from the beginning and although we think mostly well of Kim, I'm frankly not surprised that Kevin, from his perspective, has finally had enough.

I don't want to get judgemental or unkind here but I'm glad that marriage is over. They have four kids and Blake is the youngest. The three oldest are not very successful yet at anything positive and that's all I'm going to say about that. Blake, if he survives, has a shot at being a success story.

Come Follow Me

D&C 43:25 How oft have I called upon you by the mouth of my servants, and by the ministering of angels, and by mine own voice, and by the voice of thunderings, and by the voice of lightnings, and by the voice of tempests, and by the voice of earthquakes, and great hailstorms, and by the voice of famines and pestilences of every kind, and by the great sound of a trump, and by the voice of judgment, and by the voice of mercy all the day long, and by the voice of glory and honor and the riches of eternal life, and would have saved you with an everlasting salvation, but ye would not!

"Because of frequent and frightening calamities in the world, some people doubt the existence of God. But, in fact, He is trying to help us. He revealed these words: “How oft have I called upon you by the mouth of my servants, and by the ministering of angels, and by mine own voice, and by the voice of thunderings, and … tempests, … earthquakes, … great hailstorms, … famines and pestilences of every kind, … and would have saved you with an everlasting salvation, but ye would not!"

Elder Russell M. Nelson of The Quorum of Twelve Apostles, April 2005
