Working in the Back Yard

I truly have intended to blog more frequently but laziness has held me back. Jake came to visit for Mothers' Day and took these pictures and many more. So since he did a big portion of the work (taking the pictures), I thought I'd do a little blog with some of them.

Since the first hints of Spring, we have been spending the days where weather permitted and Mission Labors permitted working in the gardens. Although it is a lot of work, it is very satisfying and enjoyable. Above is me in the back yard. Our property ends about twenty feet in back of the planted area on my right. Just over my right shoulder you can see a tree stump which is about two feet outside of our yard. The lawn beyond belongs to the Condiminium projects that are visible in the back ground. The distance is farther than it looks - about 100 yards.
The next picture is a view of the back from inside our family room looking across our screened-in porch.
I made the steps that lead from our lower yard up to a nice little side yard where Cathy is planning on a little kitchen garden (tomatoes, etc.)
We get stuff made out of concrete, including the wall fountain, from a place across the river in Charlestown, Indiana, called the Concrete Lady. They make concrete statues, fountains, birdbaths, etc. They make life size Harley Davidsons, Hippopotami, you name it and if you buy it at their manufacturing plant which is acres and acres, the prices are exremely good. Our wall fountain is the heaviest thing I have ever tried to move. It came in two pieces, the base and the fountain. We actually had to get a floor jack and raise the fountain up to a height a little above the top of the base then build a ramp to walk it over to where it now sits. It will NOT be moved by me again... EVER!

Anyone who loves gardening can see why we love our back yard. There are red birds, yellow birds, orange breasted birds, and many others. they sing beautifully evry morning and that's usually the only sound heard in our yard. We love it. And a cheerful thanks to Jake for the pix!
