2018 May 26

It's now Saturday morning and we are still waiting to move in. The closing will probably take place next Wednesday, May 30th.

In the meantime we have things to do to keep busy. The refrigerator has finally arrived and was installed yesterday. I got a call from Jim Denninghof. He was a big help when we packed our pod a few weeks ago at our old house. Because the pod was full, he took a couple of small pieces of furniture to his place but he has several grand children, etc. coming to visit plus he is leaving town for a few days. So he needs those items removed today.

So I finally contacted one off our new neighbors, Gary Turpin, who is also a member of our new Elders Quorum presidency and who is currently out of town. He loaned me his pickup truck and invited me to put the items in question in his garage. He and his wife will be away for another week but he told me where the keys to the truck are so that is covered. Then I contacted my good friend, Michael Browder, who happens to be in the Elders Quorum presidency in our last ward, Louisville 3rd, and he will help me move the furniture this morning.

Then Cathy and I are probably going to shop for furniture. Time is not "flying" but things are moving along.

2018 May 24

We had a nice meeting with President Day last evening. he extended the calling of ward executive secretary to me. I am excited about that. I get to be involved in the nuts and bolts of ward operations and the bishop is Eric Bednar. His dad is Elder David A. Bednar, the apostle, and he, Elder Bednar, visits two or three times a year. I was a ward executive secretary many years ago. I'm sure a lot has changed and I'm looking forward to learning and helping.

We also had our walk-through at our new home last night. It looks very nice. There are a couple of easily resolved issues, most notably they sent a stove that doesn't match the other appliances in color. But these, as I mentioned , will be resolved. Still hoping for a miracle which will allow us to move in this coming Saturday but it's looking more and more like next week. We'll know more today.

2018 May 23

On about May 1st, we moved out of our home at 33 Autumn Hill in Prospect, KY, having sold it to Terry and Melissa Seelow.

We had been contemplating a move in order to gain "one-level" living due to Cathy's bad knees. We had been looking at patio homes in the Claymont Springs development near the Crestwood stake center but we feared there wouldn't be any left when we felt we were going to move later this year.

Then I saw a posting on Next door Hunting Creek, an online messaging and information site. Someone had a friend who was looking for a home in Hunting Creek, our neighborhood in Prospect. After conferring with Cathy, I responded that we would be selling in a few months and if they were still looking then, they could contact us. They contacted me immediately and asked if they could just look at the place. Again, after talking to Cathy I responded that that would be fine. They came over the following Saturday and after 10 minutes offered what I had thought was the highest we could get and which Cathy had thought might be quite optimistic. So the race was on to find our place at Claymont, which we did at 6625 Williamsburg Court.

We had to be out of Autumn Hill by May 2nd and as of this writing, we are still waiting for our new home to be completed. We are dubiously hoping for tomorrow. We drove to Utah in the mean time and stayed with my sister, Beth and her husband Bruce. We got to spend a lot of time with Jake and Meredith and their lovely kids, our grand kids, Erica (8), Jill (turned 4 while we were there) and the twin boys, Fredrick Allen and Alexander Grant Partridge (8 months) who were given their names and blessings also while we there.

We got back to Louisville yesterday evening and drove by the house. It looks great but we don't know for sure when we will be able to take possession.

I have certainly seen the hand of The Lord in every step of this process. And we are hoping He will continue to bless us with being able to move in sooner rather than later. We are staying in a hotel that is costing us $110 a night.

Along those lines, we got a text message from Brother Jim Koller, our stake Executive Secretary, requesting that both Cathy and I meet with the Stake President, President Arthur Day, this evening at 7:30. Hmmmm.
