2018 September 22, GI Bleeding continued

So I had my colonoscopy and nothing was found. They kept me overnight again and now it’s Saturday morning. I had a nice dinner last night and breakfast this morning. No bleeding for two days now so maybe I will be paroled today. One can always hope.

Many years ago I had similar episode in Long Beach where I was bleeding severely and admitted to the ICU. I was given a blessing and the bleeding stopped. When a colonoscopy was performed the doctor could not find anything that indicated I had been bleeding. I have always credited that blessing with my sudden recovery. So I asked Cathy to call our Elders Quorum President, Doug Satterfield, and see if someone might be available. Turns out my good friend and neighbor, Gary Turpin, and Bishop Eric Bednar we’re already together visiting ward members and they came over and gave me a blessing. I was only partly joking when I told them I expected the same result but apparently I got it. No bleeding and nothing to repair. I hope I don’t have to amend this later. I’m very thankful for the prayers offered in my behalf. And for my wonderful wife and her love and companionship.

2018 September 21, Cathy's knee replacement surgery

I’m in a waiting room at Baptist Health, Louisville. Cathy’s right knee replacement has just been completed and I have spoken with her surgeon, Dr. Reid Brown. He reported that the surgery went very well and he expects a full recovery. It will be a minimum of twelve weeks before her other (left) knee can be replaced. That puts us to February 13th. I estimate conservatively that we will be into March, 2019, before we do the second knee but time will tell. *As of 12/6/18, her next knee will be done on February 25, 2019.

I will try to be diligent in reporting additional info as this day moves along (it’s only 9 AM).

On another plane, we visited Bob and Kathy in Kirtland and Hiram, Ohio last weekend. We really enjoyed the visit and I was deeply moved by the Spirit to be in a place where so many revelations occurred. It’s humbling to be where you know the Gospel of Jesus Christ was so greatly restored. We both want to go back. We were also pleased to find out that our friends, Dick and Lorene Neal, will be leaving shortly to also serve in Kirtland historic area.

2018 September 20, GI Bleeding

We spent the last week in Provo and Orem visiting my sister, Beth and our son, Jake and his wife, Meredith and their four kids, Erica, Jillian, and the twins, Fredrick and Alexander. The twins turned one year old on the thirteenth. Cathy turned 68on the same day. Erica turned nine on the twelfth so we celebrated four birthdays.

On the way home day before yesterday I started having stomach discomfort. Long story short I was admitted to Norton Brownsboro hospital yesterday for bleeding in my intestinal track. This morning they did an upper GI exam and found nothing. So tomorrow I get to have a colonoscopy.

Cathy is taking good care of me and making sure the doctors and nurses also take good care of me. She’s the greatest wife in the world for me.

2018 September 3

Catching up. Well... it took awhile but we finally got landscaping and wifi, then everything else gradually fell into place. As of today we have almost all of our furniture window treatments, rugs, etc. We are going back to Utah next week to celebrate four birthdays. Erica will be nine on September 12th then Fredrick and Alexander turn one on the following day. The fourth birthday is also on September 13th and that is, of course, Cathy turning 68. Should be a fun trip.

I keep thinking I should write more and I truly have more to write. But it's late and I have been working hard all day. Drove to Cincinnati with Cathy and got some things at Ikea. They had some drapes that we really liked but the displayed ones were all that was left. They were the last ones available in that style so they gave us the display ones for $18.00. Pretty good deal. So when we got home, I installed the rod and the drapes and they actually look pretty good. I need to figure out how to get pictures in this program. I'm working with my old ASUS lap top right now. My IPad is downstairs and I'm obviously too tired or too lazy to get it. Besides, there is a Dodger game on TV and that happens so seldom, I hate to interrupt. It's bottom of the third, at Dodger Stadium with Dodgers leading the NY Mets 1-0, one out, man on 2nd. Very exciting. I'll try to write more tomorrow. Good night.

2018, September 1, Letter from Jake

 Mom and Dad,

In the last few years, as I've seen the already sad relationship deteriorate further between Meredith's parents, I have felt overwhelming grateful to be blessed with the gift of parents who love each other. I admit, I took this immense blessing for granted. I believe this is largely due to the fact that prior to my own marriage, I had never come close to being exposed to the type of relationship my in-laws have. I thought that's how all married couples acted, or at least to some extent.

As you can imagine, it is incredibly difficult on Meredith (and her siblings and their families) to frequently observe her parents' awful behavior towards each other. But we, the Jacob and Meredith Partridge family, are delighted to observe the love you both have for each other. We are blessed by your efforts.

I know from my own experience that it takes effort, and while no one relationship or no one person is perfect, we're blessed significantly by those efforts–as are those around us who are inspired by these efforts to love each other and work through the difficult times together.

Again, thank you for the love you two share with us. It has helped me immensely in my own marriage, and it has, and continues to inspired me to focus on loving Meredith, Erica, Jill, Fredrick, and Alexander.

Love,

Jake
