100424, Friday

Journal Entry

I had a pretty good day at the Bishops Storehouse yesterday. It was my third day in a row of  "working" in the sense that I served on Tuesday at the Storehouse, Wednesday in the temple and yesterday back to the Storehouse. So that tends to tire me out but it's a good tired. Starting next month I'll only be working two days a week... Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Then we can enjoy going to the temple as patrons, ordinarily on Saturday mornings. My instinct wants to serve for 40+ hours a week but then my brain kicks in and I realize I'm old and trying to recover from difficult spinal surgery. I also feel like I'd like to remain in my mortal life with Cathy as long as possible, maybe into my mid-90s, but who knows. It's complicated.

Today is Friday and I'm planning on just quietly getting ready for our trip next week to Arizona. My big concern is being able to charge our iPhone and Apple watches plus my iPad. Shouldn't be too hard.

Come Follow Me

3 Nephi 14

7 Ask, and it shall be given unto you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

8 For every one that asketh, receiveth; and he that seeketh, findeth; and to him that knocketh, it shall be opened.

"Those who save their marriages (and other important relationships) choose happiness. While it’s true that some types of chronic depression require specialized treatment, I am fond of this bit of wisdom by Abraham Lincoln: “Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be.” It fits nicely with its scriptural companion: “Seek, and ye shall find.”

"If we look for imperfections in our spouse or irritations in our marriage, we will certainly find them, because everyone has some. On the other hand, if we look for the good, we will surely find it, because everyone has many good qualities too."

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Second Counselor in the First Presidency, April 2016

Finally, Jesus told us the way back to His Father. There is only one way and it is both strait and narrow. If we will follow that path, recognize and avoid the false teachers in sheep’s clothing, and make it to the gate, when we knock at His door, and ask for admission, He will open it. The Father will be there to greet us, and we will be allowed to enter into His presence. But others who do not follow this path will be told, unfortunately, “I never knew you; depart from me, ye that work iniquity”
