Journal Entry:

We served in the Bishops Storehouse yesterday. It was pretty busy and we had a productive and useful day.

I had the thoughtk as some of our fellow Missionaries were talking about how they might get their parents to give up driving cars because they no longer were able to devote the needed attention to driving safely, that I have been truly blessed to be able to drive safely given my age of 80... Soon to be 81.

I was helping a patron who I believe mentioned that he was 57 years old and he looked and acted like he might be a real hazard while driving. This caused me to worry a little because we like to go for drives. My sister, Beth, is, I think 84, still drives but she tries to avoid it if possible.

Something to think about. I truly believe that Cathy will be able to drive for a few more years after I no longer can do so safely. We'll hope and pray for the best. In our current life, driving is pretty important. We can't get to the temple or even to Sacrament meeting without driving. Hmmm.

Come Follow Me:

Ezekiel 34:16 I will seek that which was lost, and bring again that which was driven away, and will bind up that which was broken, and will strengthen that which was sick: but I will destroy the fat and the strong; I will feed them with judgment.

"The answer is simple and clear. As the Good Shepherd, Jesus Christ views disease in His sheep as a condition that needs treatment, care, and compassion. This shepherd, our Good Shepherd, finds joy in seeing His diseased sheep progress toward healing.

…While God is empathetic, we should not mistakenly believe that He is accepting and open-minded about sin. He is not. The Savior came to earth to save us from our sins and, importantly, will not save us in our sins...

The Savior’s compassion, love, and mercy draw us toward Him. Through His Atonement, we are no longer satisfied with our sinful state. God is clear about what is right and acceptable to Him and what is wrong and sinful. This is not because He desires to have mindless, obedient followers. No, our Heavenly Father desires that His children knowingly and willingly choose to become like Him and qualify for the kind of life He enjoys. In doing so, His children fulfill their divine destiny and become heirs to all that He has. For this reason, Church leaders cannot alter God’s commandments or doctrine contrary to His will, to be convenient or popular."

Elder Dale G. Renlund, Apostle
