Blessings

Blessings!!!

I think I wrote earlier about our car breaking down on Thanksgiving Day. Jake was driving and suddenly all of the dashboard lights came on and it started making a disturbing noise. We pulled over at Covered Bridge Road (SR 329) and Old Zaring Road in the parking lot of the antique store at that corner. Cathy called our home teacher, Tom Posey, and his wife, Debbie, came right over to give us a ride home. I called Geico for a tow and Cathy called Jimmy Smith, our good friend and a member of Crestwood First Ward and, more importantly, a first class auto mechanic. He happened to be nearby and came over.

The rest of the story (so far) is that Jimmy determined that the starter was burned out but discovered that there seemed to be a massive oil pressure problem with the motor. In short, we probably needed a new motor. That was about $5 - 6,000 of bad news. While we were trying to grapple with that, Jimmy called and said that he had looked on line and determined that our car was under a safety recall for engine problems. He thought we might get Hyundai to put in a new motor for us. I mentioned that to Jake in a phone call and he looked further on the internet and found that not only was there a recall but there was also a class-action lawsuit. As a result of the settlement of that lawsuit, Hyundai motors had extended the warranty for motors of several vehicles including ours.

I drove over to Oxmoor Hyundai where we bought the car and they explained that they would do an inspection and, if needed, they would replace our car and provide a free rental in the mean time.

We got a call the next advising us that our motor replacement had been authorized. Blessing!

While I'm at it, here's another blessing.

Three years ago we hired a company to install a whole home humidifier to keep the humidity level up during the long, cold winters. It has given us nothing but problems and has seldom worked properly. As winter approaches, we decided to call them again and see if they can fix it. They came out and said that they have now determined that these units are defective and they will replace it for free with a better unit. Blessing!
