Journal Entry, 8/4/2023

Had a visit with Dr Welch re my elbow. He prescribed some more antibiotics and had some lab work done. I actually feel a little better this morning.

Going to breakfast with Craig. I'm kinda his only brother left and i I had the impression that it would be good for him to get away from all the doings of Devin's passing and just kick back with me for a few. He enthusiastically agreed so we're going to Magleby's by his house for breakfast.

Yesterday, Cathy and I were at Chick-Fil-A having breakfast when Beth called. She and Dianna and Karen, all at Beth's house, wondered if we would bring them breakfast which we enthusiastically did. We had a very nice visit.

It's interesting and really not surprising that a funeral of a loved one brings people together in a way that is closer and more spiritual than almost anything else I can think of.

I just know that Devin would be pleased... Actually probably is pleased.

It's been almost exactly a year since his dad, Bruce, passed and I'll bet they are very close right now.

Come Follow Me

Acts 28:8 And it came to pass, that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and of a bloody flux: to whom Paul entered in, and prayed, and laid his hands on him, and healed him.

"...I will concentrate my remarks on healing blessings involving the power of the priesthood. We have this priesthood power, and we should all be prepared to use it properly. Current increases in natural disasters and financial challenges show that we will need this power even more in the future than in the past.

Many scriptures teach that the servants of the Lord “shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.” Miracles happen when the authority of the priesthood is used to bless the sick. I have experienced these miracles. As a boy and as a man I have seen healings as miraculous as any recorded in the scriptures, and so have many of you."

Elder Dallin H. Oaks, April 2010

D&C 59:20 And it pleaseth God that he hath given all these things unto man; for unto this end were they made to be used, with judgment, not to excess, neither by extortion.

21 And in nothing doth man offend God, or against none is his wrath kindled, save those who confess not his hand in all things, and obey not his commandments.

Not long ago, Meredith took Jake to the hospital because he was suffering from pain and discomfort throughout and she called Cathy and asked if we would come and give him a blessing. It was on a Saturday between w lurking at the Bishops Storehouse and my temple assignment but we made arrangements to go straight to the hospital and there I gave Jake a blessing. After a short visit we left and I went to the temple. Jake was released and went home and recovered his health.

Nothing dramatic. It could have happened anyway. But I do believe that Heavenly Father blessed him and that his recovery was aid Ed by that blessing.

Book of Mormon reading

2nd Nephi Chapter 20

The destruction of Assyria is a type of the destruction of the wicked at the Second Coming—Few people will be left after the Lord comes again—The remnant of Jacob will return in that day—Compare Isaiah 10. About 559–545 B.C.

Chapter 21

The stem of Jesse (Christ) will judge in righteousness—The knowledge of God will cover the earth in the Millennium—The Lord will raise an ensign and gather Israel—Compare Isaiah 11. About 559–545 B.C.
