2024 February 16, Friday, Journal Entry

I got out car serviced (95,000 miles) yesterday. All it needed was wiper blades. This car (Toyota Prius) has been amazing. After 95,000 miles, it still runs like new. The 100,000 mile service will be more expensive... Probably over $500 but that's a whole lot better than buying a new car.

I enjoyed playing pickleball with my friends in the morning.

Today I am substituting for Dennis Gauger at the temple. He has some duties regarding a funeral that he needs to attend to. I'll ride with my neighbor, Art Sandgren, who works the same shift. That way, Cathy can have the car if she needs it. Art had made an appointment to do Initiatories after his shift and I was able to get a similar appointment... a good day in the temple.

Come Follow Me

2 Nephi 4:34 O Lord, I have trusted in thee, and I will trust in thee forever. I will not put my trust in the arm of flesh; for I know that cursed is he that putteth his trust in the arm of flesh. Yea, cursed is he that putteth his trust in man or maketh flesh his arm.

This is such a no-brainer these days. I am eternally grateful to know that I am a son of God. It's sad but there are so many parts of of today's existence that can't be trusted. There is deceit and outright dishonesty everywhere we turn. There are even misleading statements from an increasing number of so-called members of the Church. I know I can trust my wife, family and some friends, as well as official statements from church leadership and, of course, scriptures but beyond that, careful consideration is essential. Follow the prophets!

"In this modern age, we have come to expect that knowledge can and should be obtained immediately. When information is not easily known or accessible, it is often dismissed or mistrusted. Because of the abundance of information, some unwittingly give more credibility to available sources with an unknown origin rather than relying on the Lord’s established pattern for receiving personal revelation. Jacob (Nephi's brother) could have been describing our time when he said: “But behold, [they] were a stiffnecked people; and they despised the words of plainness … and sought for things that they could not understand. Wherefore, because of their blindness, which blindness came by looking beyond the mark, they must needs fall; for God hath taken away his plainness from them, and delivered unto them many things which they cannot understand, because they desired it.”

Elder W. Mark Bassett Of the Seventy, October 2016
