"In humility, we declare that in answer to his prayer, God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, appeared to Joseph and inaugurated the “restitution of all things” (Acts 3:21) as foretold in the Bible. In this vision, he learned that following the death of the original Apostles, Christ’s New Testament Church was lost from the earth. Joseph would be instrumental in its return."

 Restoration Proclamation

"After a time the Church as established by the Lord fell into spiritual decay. His teachings were altered; His ordinances were changed. The Great Apostasy came as had been foretold by Paul, who knew that the Lord would not come again “except there come a falling away first.”

The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ

How do you commemorate the 200th anniversary of an event that changed the world? That’s the question the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles pondered as April 2020 approached, marking 200 years since Joseph Smith’s First Vision. “We wondered if a monument should be erected,” President Russell M. Nelson recalled. “But as we considered the unique historic and international impact of that First Vision, we felt impressed to create a monument not of granite or stone but of words … , not to be carved in ‘tables of stone’ but rather to be etched in the ‘fleshy tables’ of our hearts [2 Corinthians 3:3]” (“Hear Him,” Ensign or Liahona, May 2020, 90).

The monument of words they created is titled “The Restoration of the Fulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ: A Bicentennial Proclamation to the World.” It’s a monument not just to the First Vision but also to everything Jesus Christ has done—and is still doing—since then. The Restoration of His gospel started when one person turned to God and heard Him. It continues that same way: one heart, one sacred experience at a time—including yours.

Come Follow Me has basically completed this year's study of the Book of Mormon. As we prepare to study the Doctrine and Covenants the official church Come Follow Me web site celebrates the new year by reviewing the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ proclamation read by President Russell M. Nelson at the April 2020 general conference, the 200 year anniversary of Joseph Smith's first vision.

I'm looking forward to getting into the Doctrine and Covenants this year and will additionally try to read a chapter a day in the Book of Mormon.

We went to our 0630 Endowment Session and enjoyed that. The weather was cold and rainy but by the time we were done, it was beginning to clear up. After breakfast we drove up to Fashion Place and walked then came home and just relaxed the rest of the day. We know we have to start taking down our Christmas decorations but I have sort of become comfortable with doing that right after my birthday so maybe we'll do that this year as well.

Or last Sacrament meeting of the year today will be at 1200. Starting next week we will be starting at 1330 (1:30 PM).

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

"He, the Son of the Father, came to earth. He condescended to leave His royal courts on high—where He stood as Prince, the Firstborn of the Father—to take upon Himself mortality, to be born in a manger, the humblest of all places, in a vassal state ruled by the centurions of Rome."

I served in the temple yesterday as a substitute for Dennis Gauger. The temple was extremely busy. Each of the Endowment sessions had at least 80 patrons. The Mt. Timpanogos temple is one of the largest temples in the church. We have about 4,000 ordinance workers. The Endowment sessions are held every thirty minutes. There are four "Instruction" rooms that each have at least 98 seats. Some say that the closing for rebuilding the old Provo Temple had contributed to that but we have the Provo City Center Temple and the new Orem temple as well as the Saratoga Springs and Payson temple. The new Lindon Temple should be up and running in a few months and the new Lehi temple will soon follow. It will be interesting to see how these new temples, Lindon and Lehi, impact attendance at Mt Timpanogos.

The attendance, while huge, is being handled quite well.

The weather is terrible with rain and some snow. It's miserable to be outside but our home is cozy and warm.

Matthew 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.

"For a few moments, may we set aside the catalogs of Christmas, with their gifts of exotic description. Let’s even turn from the flowers for Mother, the special tie for Father, the cute doll, the train that whistles, the long-awaited bicycle—even the “Star Trek” books and videos—and direct our thoughts to those God-given gifts that endure. I have chosen from a long list just four:

1. The gift of birth.

2. The gift of peace.

3. The gift of love.

4. The gift of life eternal."

We closed out Christmas in good form by visiting Ron McDonald and his wife, Janet, yesterday afternoon then we went Beth's for tacos and a visit with her family later in the day.

Ron is really in bad shadow and we just didn't know. He and his wife have a home in St George and we hadn't seen them for several weeks. We assumed they were in St George but he has been very sick and is not expected to live much longer. Cathy found out when Janet called and let us know. Ron might be on hospice at home. He can hardly move and is stopped over so bad he can barely lift his head up to a point where he can see who he's trying to talk to. We took them a few treats and had a nice visit. We're going to try to spend more time being close to them now that we know they're here in Lindon.

Visiting with Beth's family was a lot more fun. The photo here is off Craig and I and Luke, Maddi and Devin's son.

We had a great Christmas. Jake and his family came over and we had a terrific breakfast together followed by exchanging fun gifts.

Cathy was feeling good and it showed with the breakfast she presented. She spent most of the previous day cooking and putting together did options that were very tasty. Everyone loved it.

Only one problem... We all raved over her breakfast casserole that was made partly from croissants (not gluten free). Cathy decided to take a small taste and this morning her stomach is making her pay. It's just sad that she can create such delicious food that she frequently can't even taste herself.

Today were going to Beth's house for dinner and to visit with her family. That should be very enjoyable.

1 Nephi 11:18 And he said unto me: Behold, the virgin whom thou seest is the mother of the Son of God, after the manner of the flesh.

19 And it came to pass that I beheld that she was carried away in the Spirit; and after she had been carried away in the Spirit for the space of a time the angel spake unto me, saying: Look!

20 And I looked and beheld the virgin again, bearing a child in her arms.

To me, the most important emphasis of the above scripture is the emphasis on the presence of angels in our lives if we are righteous and working to accomplish good things.

"When Adam and Eve willingly stepped into mortality, they knew this telestial world would contain thorns and thistles and troubles of every kind. Perhaps their most challenging realization, however, was not the hardship and danger they would endure but the fact that they would now be distanced from God, separated from Him with whom they had walked and talked, who had given them face-to-face counsel. After this conscious choice, as the record of creation says, “they saw him not; for they were shut out from his presence.” Amidst all else that must have troubled them, surely this must have troubled them the most.

But God knew the challenges they would face, and He certainly knew how lonely and troubled they would sometimes feel. So He watched over His mortal family constantly, heard their prayers always, and sent prophets (and later apostles) to teach, counsel, and guide them. But in times of special need, He sent angels, divine messengers, to bless His children, reassure them that heaven was always very close and that His help was always very near. Indeed, shortly after Adam and Eve found themselves in the lone and dreary world, an angel appeared unto them, who taught them the meaning of their sacrifice and the atoning role of the promised Redeemer who was to come."

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, October 2008

God never leaves us alone, never leaves us unaided in the challenges that we face.

When Adam and Eve willingly stepped into mortality, they knew this telestial world would contain thorns and thistles and troubles of every kind. I think Cathy loves her sons and their families an awfully lot. We are fortunate to have Jake and his family come over for breakfast this morning. They will be here for a couple of hours then they're going home to host some Christmas activities of their own.

The two weather forecasts on my phone indicate snow on one and rain on the other. So far the rain is winning even though it shows a temperature of 34 degrees.

So white Christmas? Maybe but...

We have sine nice gifts for Jake, Meredith and the kids. And Cathy has planned a really nice breakfast. Should be fun.

3 Nephi 1:13 Lift up your head and be of good cheer; for behold, the time is at hand, and on this night shall the sign be given, and on the morrow come I into the world, to show unto the world that I will fulfil all that which I have caused to be spoken by the mouth of my holy prophets.

14 Behold, I come unto my own, to fulfil all things which I have made known unto the children of men from the foundation of the world, and to do the will, both of the Father and of the Son—of the Father because of me, and of the Son because of my flesh. And behold, the time is at hand, and this night shall the sign be given.

"The scriptural story of Jesus Christ is indeed a two-hemisphere story. While Mary and Joseph in the East were making preparations for the holy child’s birth in Bethlehem, Nephi in the West was being taught by the premortal Messiah. To Nephi the Lord said, “Be of good cheer; … on the morrow come I into the world, to show unto the world that I will fulfil all that which I have caused to be spoken by the mouth of my holy prophets.”

I sang in the choir at Sacrament meeting yesterday and the program was well received and well done in my opinion. It was a Christmas program obviously and there was no other meetings other than Sacrament meeting. We enjoyed a nice afternoon and evening.

Today we are scheduled to have lunch at Beth's home. Looking forward to that. Hopefully we'll be able to get some walking in early but we'll see.

Helaman 14:4  Therefore, there shall be one day and a night and a day, as if it were one day and there were no night; and this shall be unto you for a sign; for ye shall know of the rising of the sun and also of its setting; therefore they shall know of a surety that there shall be two days and a night; nevertheless the night shall not be darkened; and it shall be the night before he is born.

5 And behold, there shall a new star arise, such an one as ye never have beheld; and this also shall be a sign unto you.

"In ancient America, Samuel the Lamanite prophesied that on the night of the Savior’s birth “there [would] be great lights in heaven, … insomuch that it shall appear unto man as if it was day.”

In those days as in ours, some naysayers, called anti-Christs, convinced others that there was no need for a Savior and His Atonement. When Samuel’s prophecy was finally fulfilled and there was a “day and a night and a day, as if it were one day,” what joy must have filled the hearts of those who had believed in the prophets!"

We enjoyed our endowment session yesterday at 0630. Afterward we went to Corner Bakery for breakfast then Cathy spent most of the rest of the day baking and otherwise preparing for Christmas. We both went to Dan Wilson's place in Lehi and got a few more tree ornaments and a print of one of his paintings.

He is a very good artist and an excellent business man. Many of his paintings appear in several temples and prints can be purchased at Deseret Book, Costco and other outlets. He also has turned some of his favorites into Christmas ornaments that are very high quality and also puzzles and other products. He sells most of his work from his in-home studio located in Lehi. Very pleasant fellow also.

Moroni 10:32 Yea, come unto Christ, and be perfected in him, and deny yourselves of all ungodliness; and if ye shall deny yourselves of all ungodliness, and love God with all your might, mind and strength, then is his grace sufficient for you, that by his grace ye may be perfect in Christ; and if by the grace of God ye are perfect in Christ, ye can in nowise deny the power of God.
33 And again, if ye by the grace of God are perfect in Christ, and deny not his power, then are ye sanctified in Christ by the grace of God, through the shedding of the blood of Christ, which is in the covenant of the Father unto the remission of your sins, that ye become holy, without spot.

"Our hope for holiness is centered in Christ, in His mercy and His grace. With faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, we may become clean, without spot, when we deny ourselves of ungodliness and sincerely repent…Our souls are sanctified when we receive the Holy Ghost with open hearts…Over time, as we continually strive to become one with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, we become partakers of Their divine nature."

We went to the Bishops Storehouse at 3:30 yesterday to help out and it turned out we were very much needed. Both of us filled numerous orders and everyone agreed it was great that we were there. We both enjoyed it a lot.

We don't have much scheduled for today. I ordered some gluten free bread from the Good Food Store in Salt Lake and am scheduled to pick it up at 10 this morning. Then we might stop at Fashion Place Mall and get some walking in. Tomorrow morning we are scheduled for a 0630 endowment session. Cathy is feeling much better and we both appreciate her new level of this health.

I git our car serviced yesterday - 115,000 mile service. It's just an oil change and general inspection. We do this every 5,000 miles. I was a little concerned about the brakes because since we bought the car new we have never had the brakes serviced. My 78 year old brain has a hard time accepting that the brakes on this car just don't wear out but they don't. A majority of the braking is accomplished by the engine slowing. Again, this is the best car I've ever owned (2020 Prius XLE).

Jake picked me up at the repair shop and we went to breakfast at Del Taco. He brought Jill, Alexander and Fredrick along and we had a nice visit. The Del Taco we go to has a pretty cool children's play area. I talked to Jake about Christmas. Cathy had invited him to bring his family over to our home on Christmas and  he had rather innocently, in his opinion, told Cathy that his wife, Meredith, didn't want to go anywhere on Christmas. She understandably wanted to stay home and had invited some of her family to come over on Christmas afternoon. They invited us to join them. I explained that Cathy was a little disappointed but perhaps they could come over the next day or so and we left it at that. Anyway, I guess he and Meredith discussed it and decided they would come over on Christmas morning if we still wanted them so he called me yesterday afternoon and said they would like to come over and we, of course, are delighted. Happy ending.

Moroni 10:30 And again I would exhort you that ye would come unto Christ, and lay hold upon every good gift, and touch not the evil gift, nor the unclean thing.

"A second channel for these enabling powers is the gifts of the Spirit. Because of Christ’s Atonement, we are eligible to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost and its accompanying spiritual gifts. These gifts are attributes of godliness; therefore, each time we acquire a gift of the Spirit, we become more like God. No doubt that is why the scriptures enjoin us on multiple occasions to seek these gifts."

President George Q. Cannon taught: “No man ought to say, ‘Oh, I cannot help this; it is my nature.’ He is not justified in it, for the reason that God has promised to … give gifts that will eradicate [our weaknesses]. … If any of us are imperfect, it is our duty to pray for the gift that will make us perfect.”

Yesterday was a busy day. Cathy and I enjoyed a nice breakfast together then I did my Wednesday temple ordinance worker shift from 0900-1400.

Then Cathy had spotted a beautiful dress a few days ago at Madewell in Fashion Place Mall so we drove up there but it didn't work out when she tried it on. We got our steps in then went to an early dinner at the Cheesecake Factory. Driving home turned into a huge chore because of several accidents on Interstate 15.

Today I'm going to get the car serviced then Cathy suggested that we serve at the Bishops Storehouse from about 4 pm 'til closing (6:30). I was delighted to hear her make that suggestion because I had been feeling that same yearning myself. We dropped Thursdays and went to Tuesdays only a few weeks ago when I was recovering from spine surgery and Cathy was recovering from her surgical procedure in Florida. But we're both feeling much better and Christmas is coming up so we feel that the Storehouse is going to be busy and we would like to help.

Moroni 10:20 Wherefore, there must be faith; and if there must be faith there must also be hope; and if there must be hope there must also be charity.

21 And except ye have charity ye can in nowise be saved in the kingdom of God; neither can ye be saved in the kingdom of God if ye have not faith; neither can ye if ye have no hope.

22 And if ye have no hope ye must needs be in despair; and despair cometh because of iniquity.

There's a lot there in those three short verses.

"Unsurprisingly the triad of faith, hope, and charity, which brings us to Christ, has strong and converging linkage: faith is in the Lord Jesus Christ, hope is in His atonement, and charity is the “pure love of Christ”! Each of these attributes qualifies us for the celestial kingdom. Each, first of all, requires us to be meek and lowly…

Just as doubt, despair, and desensitization go together, so do faith, hope, and charity. The latter, however, must be carefully and constantly nurtured…"

"It is our faith that unlocks the power of God in our lives.

And yet, exercising faith can seem overwhelming. At times we may wonder if we can possibly muster enough faith to receive the blessings that we so desperately need…

The Lord understands our mortal weakness. We all falter at times. But He also knows of our great potential…

Cathy seems to be much better this morning. She's eagerly looking forward to the Bishops Storehouse this afternoon which is good because next Tuesday is Christmas eve and the following Tuesday is new years eve and we're closed on both of those days.

Hopefully we'll get some walking in today. Part of my getting to be two pounds lighter this morning can be attributed to my walking nearly 10,000 steps yesterday.

When we're both feeling pretty healthy again, which should be pretty soon, I'm hoping we will get involved in some regular activities that will help us develop more friends and associates. I really enjoy the Bishops Storehouse and working in the temple but Cathy doesn't seem too interested in those but we'll see.  I think once she is healthy again she might take a look at working in the temple. One aspect of that is that our new Lindon Temple should be ready to open in just a few months. She might be willing to try that but we'll see. We need stuff to do that is interesting but not overly burdensome.

4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

"If the pull of the world is stronger than the faith and trust we have in the Savior, then the pull of the world will prevail every time. If we choose to focus on our negative thoughts and doubt our worth instead of clinging to the Savior, it becomes more difficult to feel the impressions of the Holy Ghost…[L]et’s not be confused about who we are! While it is often easier to be spiritually passive than it is to put forth the spiritual effort to remember and embrace our divine identity, we cannot afford that indulgence in these latter days. May we…“be faithful in Christ; … may Christ lift [us] up, and may his sufferings and death, … and his mercy and long-suffering, and the hope of his glory and of eternal life, rest in [our minds] forever.” As the Savior lifts us to higher ground, we can see more clearly not only who we are but also that we are closer to Him than we ever imagined."

Moroni 8:26 And the remission of sins bringeth meekness, and lowliness of heart; and because of meekness and lowliness of heart cometh the visitation of the Holy Ghost, which Comforter filleth with hope and perfect love, which love endureth by diligence unto prayer, until the end shall come, when all the saints shall dwell with God.

"Mormon taught, “Because of meekness and lowliness of heart cometh the visitation of the Holy Ghost.”… Isn’t that something we all seek, brothers and sisters—to be visited by the Holy Ghost, to have the Lord draw closer to us, to find joy and consolation in our lives? If so, then carefully assessing the condition of our hearts is one of the most essential things we can do in this life."

We're going through a slightly difficult time partly because Cathy has been pretty sick with her cold. We did drive to Fashion Place Mall and walk some. I got a new shirt and sweater at Dillard's that both fit me nicely. Cathy likes it when I dress well and she is great about helping me pick nice clothes.

I'm hoping she will be feeling better today. We are scheduled for an Endowment session at the temple tomorrow morning. After that, Cathy has made arrangements to take Erica to Pirate-O's up in Draper.

Today, though, we have nothing planned yet. A lot depends on how she is feeling. Well see.

Come Follow Me

Moroni 8:16 Wo be unto them that shall pervert the ways of the Lord after this manner, for they shall perish except they repent. Behold, I speak with boldness, having authority from God; and I fear not what man can do; for perfect love casteth out all fear.

There is no room for fear in these holy places of God or in the hearts of His children. Why? Because of love. God loves us—always—and we love Him. Our love of God counters all fears, and His love abounds in holy places. Think about it. When we are tentative in our commitments to the Lord, when we stray from His path leading to life eternal, when we question or doubt our significance in His divine design, when we allow fear to open the door to all its companions—discouragement, anger, frustration, disappointment—the Spirit leaves us, and we are without the Lord. If you know what that is like, you know it is not a good place to be. In contrast, when we stand in holy places, we can feel God’s love, and “perfect love casteth out all fear.”

Elder Ronald A. Rasband Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, October 2018

"The scriptures link three words powerfully together: faith, hope, charity. The gift of hope is a priceless endowment from God.

Our hope of eternal life is assured through the grace of Christ and our own choices, allowing us the remarkable blessing of returning to our heavenly home and living forever in peace and happiness with our Heavenly Father, His Beloved Son, our faithful family and precious friends, and the righteous men and women from every continent and every century."

Cathy is still not feeling well. She's had this "cold" since before we went to Florida - probably starting around November 11, which means at least a month. Actually it's probably two different illnesses back to back. We are going to find a place to walk today but other than that we have no plans.

Come Follow Me

Moroni 7:47 But charity is the pure love of Christ, and it endureth forever; and whoso is found possessed of it at the last day, it shall be well with him.

48 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, pray unto the Father with all the energy of heart, that ye may be filled with this love, which he hath bestowed upon all who are true followers of his Son, Jesus Christ; that ye may become the sons of God; that when he shall appear we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is; that we may have this hope; that we may be purified even as he is pure. Amen.

"Let us consider these principles in view of Christ’s pure love for us that we, as His followers, seek to have for one another. The scriptures define this kind of love as charity. When we think of charity, our minds usually turn to generous acts and donations to relieve the suffering of those who are experiencing physical, material, or emotional difficulties. Still, charity is not only related to something we donate to someone, but it’s an attribute of the Savior and can become part of our character. It is not surprising that the Lord instructed us to clothe ourselves “with the bond of charity, … which is the bond of perfectness and peace.” Without charity, we are nothing and we cannot inherit the place the Lord has prepared for us in the mansions of our Heavenly Father."

I truly enjoyed serving in the Bishops Storehouse yesterday. I tried to be one of Jesus' angels as I helped the various brothers and sisters who needed the food and essential items that we offer. It felt even better than usual. I know the other Missionaries are also angels and I definitely believe there are numerous angels from the other side of the Veil also helping us.

Today I am serving as an Ordinance Worker in our Mt. Timpanogos temple. I pray that I will qualify as an angel by the way that I serve and the attitude I show. I may not always succeed but I want to try.

Cathy seems to be a little better today. She even wants to go out to breakfast with me before I go to the temple. Of course part of that is that she's tired of being in the house all the time even though our house is a very nice place to be. She should be feeling better and seems to actually be a little better. Here's hoping.

Come Follow Me

Isaiah 5:20 Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Moroni 7:14 Wherefore, take heed, my beloved brethren, that ye do not judge that which is evil to be of God, or that which is good and of God to be of the devil.

"To me, cheetahs are sleek, alluring, and captivating creatures. A cheetah’s yellowish-tan to greyish-white coat with black spots acts as a beautiful disguise that makes these animals almost invisible as they stalk their prey in the African grasslands.

In a similar way, spiritually dangerous ideas and actions frequently can appear to be attractive, desirable, or pleasurable. Thus, in our contemporary world, each of us needs to be aware of beguiling bad that pretends to be good."

Cathy still has a bad cold. It's hard to know what to do for her except make her as comfortable as possible. She probably won't be going to the Bishops Storehouse this afternoon with me.

Come Follow Me

Moroni 7:13 But behold, that which is of God inviteth and enticeth to do good continually; wherefore, every thing which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God.

"I love that! “Never suppress a generous thought.” Sometimes when I have an impression to do something for someone, I wonder if it was a prompting or just my own thoughts. But I am reminded that “that which is of God inviteth and enticeth to do good continually; wherefore, every thing which inviteth and enticeth to do good, and to love God, and to serve him, is inspired of God.”

Whether they are direct promptings or just impulses to help, a good deed is never wasted, for “charity never faileth”—and is never the wrong response."

Michelle D. Craig, First Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency, October 2018

I printed copies of this and gave them to my fellow Missionaries at the Bishops Storehouse

“When we speak of those who are instruments in the hand of God, we are reminded that not all angels are from the other side of the veil. Some of them we walk with and talk with—here, now, every day. Some of them reside in our own neighborhoods. … Indeed heaven never seems closer than when we see the love of God manifested in the kindness and devotion of people so good and so pure that angelic is the only word that comes to mind” (Jeffrey R. Holland, “The Ministry of Angels,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2008, 30).

We went to church together. Cathy seems to have relapsed some with her cold symptoms. Hopefully she'll feel better today.

Got to see my spine surgeon, Dr. Kimball today. I think I'm still recovering well. I've been diligent in using my spine simulator and I have to believe it's helping. I'll see what the doc says and report back.

Other than that there's not much on our plate for today. We're going to the Bishops Storehouse tomorrow. I actually entertained the thought of going back to Thursdays along with our Tuesday assignment but that will be up to Cathy and may be a little way away. I like serving there.

Come Follow Me

When you pray, are you really praying or just saying a prayer?

Moroni 7:9 And likewise also is it counted evil unto a man, if he shall pray and not with real intent of heart; yea, and it profiteth him nothing, for God receiveth none such.

"One of the greatest lessons was that I should always, always pray “with a sincere heart, with real intent, [exercising] faith in Christ.”

On one occasion the Lord Jesus Christ “was praying in a certain place,” and “when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray.” Then He taught His disciples to pray. And today He teaches you and me to pray as we see Him in our minds praying in Gethsemane and saying, “Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done”. When you pray, do you really, truly want that “not my will, but thine, be done?"

Elder Juan A. Uceda Of the Seventy, October 2016

Mormon 7:2 And now I, Mormon, speak unto you, my beloved brethren; and it is by the grace of God the Father, and our Lord Jesus Christ, and his holy will, because of the gift of his calling unto me, that I am permitted to speak unto you at this time. 3 Wherefore, I would speak unto you that are of the church, that are the peaceable followers of Christ, and that have obtained a sufficient hope by which ye can enter into the rest of the Lord, from this time henceforth until ye shall rest with him in heaven. 4 And now my brethren, I judge these things of you because of your peaceable walk with the children of men.

We walked at Fashion Place Mall yesterday then came home and relaxed. Today is just choir practice for me then church for both of us. Cathy is feeling much better and I'm beginning to wonder if we should add something to our weekly schedule. Maybe go back to serving on Thursdays again as well as Tuesdays at the Bishops Storehouse. We are going to start going to the temple again together on Saturday mornings.

Come Follow Me

Moroni 6:9 And their meetings were conducted by the church after the manner of the workings of the Spirit, and by the power of the Holy Ghost; for as the power of the Holy Ghost led them whether to preach, or to exhort, or to pray, or to supplicate, or to sing, even so it was done.

"Moroni helps us understand how we can teach by the Spirit without replacing, diluting, or dismissing the Holy Ghost as the real teacher. Moroni said the Saints conducted their experiences “after the manner of the workings of the Spirit.” This requires more than just having the Spirit with us. To conduct ourselves “after the manner” of the Holy Ghost means that we may need to change our way of teaching to emulate the way the Holy Ghost teaches. As we align our manner with the Holy Ghost’s manner, then the Holy Ghost can teach and testify without restraint."

Matthew O. Richardson, Second Counselor in the Sunday School General Presidency, October 2011

Once again I'm reminded of the importance of the Holy Ghost and what a great resource He is for every aspect of our lives.

“Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are the source of all truth and share Their wisdom liberally. Also, understanding that we do not possess any personal knowledge independent of God can help us know who to turn to and where to place our primary trust.”

Primary General Presidency

We had lunch with our fellow Service Missionaries at an annual Christmas doings. I love those folks but I'm getting to be anti social in many ways. I don't think we'll go next year unless Cathy wants to but she seems to be nearly as anti social as I.

Moroni 6:8 But as oft as they repented and sought forgiveness, with real intent, they were forgiven.

"A high school student recently told me that it has become popular among some youth of the Church to disregard the commandments with a calculated plan to repent later. “It’s sort of a badge of honor,” I was told. Certainly the Lord will continue to forgive those who humbly repent “with real intent.” But the Savior’s merciful Atonement should never be used in such a mocking way."

Yesterday we completed some minor tasks. I got some xrays at American Fork hospital in preparation for my visit with Dr. Kimball on Monday. Then Cathy got a haircut, etc. Later, Beth and Karen came to our home for a visit and that's always enjoyable. Then Cathy and I went to University Place Mall and walked.

Today we are going to drive up to Salt Lake to a Bakery that makes very good gluten-free bread. We might stop in at Fashion Place Mall and try to get some steps in. We both try to get at least 7500 steps as part of our efforts to exercise. Because of the cold weather we can't really walk on Sunday and Tuesdays are difficult because of our Bishop's Storehouse assignment. Wednesdays, too, can be a challenge due to my assignment at the temple from 0900-1400. Kind of wipes out the middle of the day. But we try to get walks in at least five days a week if we can.

Moroni 6:5 And the church did meet together oft, to fast and to pray, and to speak one with another concerning the welfare of their souls.

"So it is in the Church today. Joined in faith, we teach and edify one another and strive to approach the full measure of discipleship…
The wards and branches of the Church offer a weekly gathering of respite and renewal, a time and place to leave the world behind—the Sabbath."

My current schedule is as a temple worker is good. I start with two veils then go to the dressing room then Initiatories and closed with one more Veil. The day went by very smoothly yesterday. My last schedule had me doing six veils in a row to start my day and that's difficult.

Today I'm just going to go with Cathy as she goes about her day plus I'll try to squeeze in a visit to American Fork hospital for xrays in preparation for my check up with Dr. Kimball next Monday.

Come Follow Me

Moroni 6:4 And after they had been received unto baptism, and were wrought upon and cleansed by the power of the Holy Ghost, they were numbered among the people of the church of Christ; and their names were taken, that they might be remembered and nourished by the good word of God, to keep them in the right way, to keep them continually watchful unto prayer, relying alone upon the merits of Christ, who was the author and the finisher of their faith.

"With frightening speed, a testimony that is not nourished daily “by the good word of God” can crumble. Thus, the antidote to Satan’s scheme is clear: we need daily experiences worshipping the Lord and studying His gospel. I plead with you to let God prevail in your life. Give Him a fair share of your time. As you do, notice what happens to your positive spiritual momentum."

I ate pretty poorly yesterday and that is reflected in my weight going up. I don't know why I don't think of this when I'm deciding what it goes to eat but I need to figure something out. I want to get back down to the 225 level and then maybe even 220.

We enjoyed serving in the Bishops Storehouse yesterday and I'm looking forward to my temple ordinance worker assignment today. I'm going to shoot for taking a substitute request one or maybe two times a month. The main concern is that I need to keep Cathy's needs in mind. We only have one car and she doesn't enjoy driving. So if I go to the temple without her she either is home without a car or she has to drive me there and pick me up. But she seems OK with me possibly substituting maybe once a month or so. I like to do that because occasionally I need a substitute and basically it's just a good thing to do.

I finally got the outdoor Christmas decorations done to my satisfaction. It's cold outside and I still have to get up on my step stool to get decorations above the door and the front archway. I got it done this year but I still have to take it down after Christmas. Next year I'll be just about 80 years old so I'm not sure about future decorations. We'll see. But actually I'm still fairly stable for an old man but that can change quickly.

Come Follow Me

When we partake of the Sacrament each week we are coven nting to take upon us the name of Jesus Christ. Why should we do that?

As King Benjamin taught: “I would that ye should take upon you the name of Christ. … Whosoever doeth this shall be found at the right hand of God, for he shall know the name by which he is called; for he shall be called by the name of Christ” (Mosiah 5:8–9).

I'm not knowledgeable on the totality of why we should take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ but it seems clear that it is a very important and positive thing for us to do. And I will personally be thinking and pondering about this much more in the future.

"We abide in Him by preparing earnestly to participate in the ordinance of the sacrament, reviewing and reflecting on our covenant promises, and repenting sincerely. Worthily partaking of the sacrament is a witness to God that we are willing to take upon ourselves the name of Jesus Christ and strive to “always remember him” after the brief period of time required to participate in that sacred ordinance."

My GMI (Glucose Management Index) is down to 6.6 which is the lowest it's ever been since I've had the ability to monitor it. Usually the GMI is indicative of one's A1C and that's an indicator of how well I'm doing in managing my diabetes. Generally those with diabetes try to keep their A1C at or below 7.0. I've found that my A1C levels generally follow my GMI but lags some. So I'm guessing my A1C would be around 6.8 edging is very good. Exercise and eating intelligently are the keys and I normally avoid sugary foods like most desserts and why I try to get already 7500 walking steps in at least five days a week.

Yesterday we drove up to Fashion Place Mall and walked. Cathy likes to walk also for her health. She seems to be improving in her general health. She is planning on joining me at the Bishops Storehouse today. Should be busy.

Moroni 2:2 And he called them by name, saying: Ye shall call on the Father in my name, in mighty prayer; and after ye have done this ye shall have power that to him upon whom ye shall lay your hands, ye shall give the Holy Ghost; and in my name shall ye give it, for thus do mine apostles.

"Priesthood ordinances and sacred covenants are essential in this ongoing process of spiritual rebirth; they also are the means God has appointed whereby we receive His exceeding great and precious promises. Ordinances that are received worthily and remembered continually open the heavenly channels through which the power of godliness can flow into our lives. Covenants that are honored steadfastly and remembered always provide purpose and the assurance of blessings in both mortality and for eternity.

For example, God promises us, according to our faithfulness, the constant companionship of the third member of the Godhead, even the Holy Ghost…"

D&C 11:12 And now, verily, verily, I say unto thee, put your trust in that Spirit which leadeth to do good—yea, to do justly, to walk humbly, to judge righteously; and this is my Spirit.

"I have spoken here of heavenly help, of angels dispatched to bless us in time of need. But when we speak of those who are instruments in the hand of God, we are reminded that not all angels are from the other side of the veil. Some of them we walk with and talk with—here, now, every day. Some of them reside in our own neighborhoods. Some of them gave birth to us, and in my case, one of them consented to marry me.
