2024 January 13, Saturday, Journal Entry
We postponed our temple trip yesterday. Cathy had been housebound for various projects for the past few days and just wanted to get out for a drive. So we drove up to Kamas then down through Parley's Canyon to Fashion Place Mall where we went for a long walk indoors (very cold outside - too cold to walk outdoors). We'll get to the temple this coming week with apologies for delays to those brothers and sisters for whom we will do the work.
Today is supposed to be another snowy day and we are going to be serving at the Bishops Storehouse.
Come Follow Me
1 Nephi 4:6 And I was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do.
"Whether we serve as ministering brothers or sisters, or simply when we are made aware of someone in need, we are encouraged to seek the guidance and direction of the Spirit—and then to act. We may wonder how best to serve, but the Lord knows, and through His Spirit we will be directed in our efforts. Like Nephi, who “was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which [he] should do,” we will also be led by the Spirit as we strive to become instruments in the Lord’s hands to bless His children. As we seek the guidance of the Spirit and trust the Lord, we will be placed in situations and circumstances where we can act and bless—in other words, minister."
Bishop W. Christopher Waddell, Second Counselor in the Presiding Bishopric, April 2019
One of the greatest messages of this part of the Book of Mormon is the importance of journals or records. We are all encouraged to keep records regarding what we do with our lives and I fear that I have not done a good job with that. Records are what have given us the Book of Mormon and other scriptures and teachings. Records show who we are, who our family members are and what we have accomplished. Records show that we have been baptized and other covenants we have made. They establish important achievements in our lives. Remember, there are literally billions of people who live or have lived on the earth and there will come a time when records or documentation of differing kinds will be very important. More important than we may know at this time.
