Come Follow Me

D&C 18:23 Behold, Jesus Christ is the name which is given of the Father, and there is none other name given whereby man can be saved;

24 Wherefore, all men must take upon them the name which is given of the Father, for in that name shall they be called at the last day;

25 Wherefore, if they know not the name by which they are called, they cannot have place in the kingdom of my Father.

"Our Heavenly Father wants to make it absolutely clear that the name of His Son, Jesus Christ, is not simply one name among many. The Savior’s name has singular and essential power. It is the only name by which salvation is possible. By emphasizing this truth in every dispensation, our loving Father assures all of His children that there is a way back to Him. But having a sure way available does not mean that our return is automatically assured. God tells us that our action is required: “Wherefore, all men [and women] must take upon them the name which is given of the Father."

Thursday morning and nothing much scheduled. We’re both pretty tired. We drove to SLC via Parley’s Canyon, walked at City Center just a little then drove home via Immigration Canyon. Lunch in Springville and a long walk in Rock Canyon Park.

Come Follow Me

D&C 18:18 Ask the Father in my name in faith, believing that you shall receive, and you shall have the Holy Ghost, which manifesteth all things which are expedient unto the children of men.

"The Lord’s loving influence through the Holy Ghost helps us know His priority for our progression. Heeding personal revelation leads to personal progression. We listen and act…Our continuing role is to receive continuing revelation.

As we attain a greater degree of proficiency at doing so, we can receive more power in our individual roles…"

I'm 79 years old and much of the world is passing me by. I saw a message on X this morning from president Trump where he is wondering how many of his "followers" are real and to give him a thumbs up if I read his message. I can't even figure out how to do that. Everything is electronic or "on line" now days and I confess I can't really keep up very well.

We worked at the Bishops Storehouse yesterday and enjoyed it. Today I'm serving my regular weekly shift at the Mt. Timpanogos Temple so that will be something I actually know how to do and will enjoy.

Both of us are in pretty good health for now and that's, of course, a good thing.

Come Follow Me

D&C 18:15 And if it so be that you should labor all your days in crying repentance unto this people, and bring, save it be one soul unto me, how great shall be your joy with him in the kingdom of my Father!

16 And now, if your joy will be great with one soul that you have brought unto me into the kingdom of my Father, how great will be your joy if you should bring many souls unto me.

"The blessings of sharing the gospel include increasing our conversion to the will of God and letting God prevail in our lives. We bless others to experience a “mighty change” of heart. There is truly eternal joy in helping to bring souls unto Christ. Laboring for the conversion of oneself and others is the noble task."

We enjoyed our Monday yesterday. Nothing noteworthy occurred. We are looking forward to serving at the Bishops Storehouse this afternoon. Our health is pretty good so we're not having a lot of medical appointments So things are quiet for now.

Come Follow Me

D&C 18:12 And he hath risen again from the dead, that he might bring all men unto him, on conditions of repentance.

13 And how great is his joy in the soul that repenteth!

"The Savior’s gift of immortality comes to all who have ever lived. But His gift of eternal life requires repentance and obedience to specific ordinances and covenants. Essential ordinances of the gospel symbolize the Atonement. Baptism by immersion is symbolic of the death, burial, and Resurrection of the Redeemer. Partaking of the sacrament renews baptismal covenants and also renews our memory of the Savior’s broken flesh and of the blood He shed for us. Ordinances of the temple symbolize our reconciliation with the Lord and seal families together forever. Obedience to the sacred covenants made in temples qualifies us for eternal life—the greatest gift of God to man—the “object and end of our existence.”

022425, Monday, Kevin and Becky Engaged to be married!

Daily Vitals: Weight: 229.4, GMI6.8, Steps (previous day) 8,393

Journal Entry:

When I got up this morning there was very good news waiting. Kevin and Becky are engaged to be married. I'm so happy for them both but especially for Kevin. He has always impressed me as a truly good man but in some ways he was not reaching his potential. And the reason in my opinion was that he didn't have the right wife. I'm not suggesting anything about Kim. She has a lot of great attributes. But for some reason they just didn't click.
It looks to me that Kevin has found a woman who will love him like he has never been truly loved before. And he has been trying hard to adjust to that. It's been a new experience for him and I think they are going to be terrific together.

They have a lot of chalenges ahead... things to work through.  But they know that and have begun their journey together. I'm really happy for them and look forward to their future success together.

We enjoyed a nice visit from Beth and Karen yesterday. Karen, who has never married but who has been very successful with supporting herself, is living with Beth now in sort of semi- retirement. Beth is widowed and the two of them get along very well. Beth has plenty of room in her home and even though she is pretty healthy and able, she is well into her 80s and having Karen in her home is a great blessing in my opinion.

Come Follow Me
D&C 18:10 Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God.
11 For, behold, the Lord your Redeemer suffered death in the flesh; wherefore he suffered the pain of all men, that all men might repent and come unto him.

"I am not suggesting that we accept sin or overlook evil, in our personal life or in the world. Nevertheless, in our zeal, we sometimes confuse sin with sinner, and we condemn too quickly and with too little compassion...We cannot gauge the worth of another soul any more than we can measure the span of the universe. Every person we meet is a VIP to our Heavenly Father. Once we understand that, we can begin to understand how we should treat our fellowmen."

We got up early and both did five Initiatories at 0700. Then we went through the 0800 Endowment Session and enjoyed the experience very much.

After relaxing for awhile, we went to University Place and walked a couple of laps but it was quite crowded. Nevertheless we got in a satisfactory number of steps. It should be warm enough (high 40s to low 50s) to walk in Rock Canyon Park today and we will try to do that this afternoon.

I worked as a substitute at the temple last night on the late shift. They were nice enough to send me home after a round of Initiatories and one Veil.

I got up a little early (0500) today and watched a recording where BYU beat U of Arizona in basketball. It was a thriller with BYU winning by one point.

Come Follow Me

D&C 15:6 And now, behold, I say unto you, that the thing which will be of the most worth unto you will be to declare repentance unto this people, that you may bring souls unto me, that you may rest with them in the kingdom of my Father. Amen.

"Here is the great news of God’s plan: the very things that will make your mortal life the best it can be are exactly the same things that will make your life throughout all eternity the best it can be! Today, to assist you to qualify for the rich blessings Heavenly Father has for you, I invite you to adopt the practice of “thinking celestial”.

Mortality is a master class in learning to choose the things of greatest eternal import. Far too many people live as though this life is all there is. However, your choices today will determine three things: where you will live throughout all eternity, the kind of body with which you will be resurrected, and those with whom you will live forever. So, think celestial."

Today will be a little longer than usual. We are both going to the temple for Initiatories at 0700 then an 0800 Endowment session. Not much planned after that but I have a substitute 5 PM shift as an Ordinance Worker. I leaked at my schedule and it seems that I will be done at 8:30 PM so not too difficult.

This is stake conference weekend and we both tend to take the weekend off since we don't have stake callings and don't particularly enjoy stake conference sessions. Sorry (a little) but that's the way we are.

Come Follow Me

D&C 14:9 Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, who created the heavens and the earth, a light which cannot be hid in darkness;

"In the Bible, we read His teaching: “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life”. And in modern revelation, we read, “Behold, I am Jesus Christ, … a light which cannot be hid in darkness”. If we follow His teachings, He lights our path in this life and assures our destiny in the next."

We walked at University Place yesterday then helped make by driving Alexander from his therapy to his school. Alexander suffers from autism. Actually his whole family is affected and Jake is looking into possible medical solutions. There seems to be some possibilities and that makes sense to me. Autism is a definite mental disability that has exploded in recent times. A lot of research is being done that could lead to possible cures or at least methods of improving the lives of those who are suffering from this disease. I applaud Jake's efforts and hope he is successful. Alexander is a very good looking young man and seems like he has every possibility of being a successful adult if his autism could be controlled. We are hoping and praying for success. We'll see.

They all came over yesterday and Cathy, true to form, feed them. Jake was here to pick up Alexander's car seat and Erica was at the Stuart's for her organ lesson. So we got a nice visit with them.

Come Follow Me

Alma 26:22 Yea, he that repenteth and exerciseth faith, and bringeth forth good works, and prayeth continually without ceasing—unto such it is given to know the mysteries of God; yea, unto such it shall be given to reveal things which never have been revealed; yea, and it shall be given unto such to bring thousands of souls to repentance, even as it has been given unto us to bring these our brethren to repentance.

D&C 14:8 And it shall come to pass, that if you shall ask the Father in my name, in faith believing, you shall receive the Holy Ghost, which giveth utterance, that you may stand as a witness of the things of which you shall both hear and see, and also that you may declare repentance unto this generation.

"You are free to develop and exercise faith in God and in His divine Son, faith in His word, faith in His Church, faith in His servants, and faith in His commandments.

Cultivation of that faith will entitle you to the companionship of the Holy Ghost, who will help you make wise decisions."

We went to Ron McDonald's funeral yesterday. It was at a mortuary and the sound system was difficult for me to hear. Cathy seemed to do alright though so anyway... We went and I'm glad we did.

Cathy is having pretty serious health problems that are causing her to be in constant pain and not sleep well. She does such a good job of trying to eat well and following doctors instructions but it seems to basically be she's aging uncomfortably. I do what I can but she's just hurting. It's complicated and I really can't describe it properly so I'll just, for now, say she's hurting.

Today we are helping make by giving rides to Alexander. Other than that, not much planned.

Come Follow Me

Endure to the end

D&C 14:6 Seek to bring forth and establish my Zion. Keep my commandments in all things.

7 And, if you keep my commandments and endure to the end you shall have eternal life, which gift is the greatest of all the gifts of God.

"Inscribed on the front of each temple is a solemn statement: “Holiness to the Lord.” These inspired words are a clear invitation that when we enter the Lord’s house, we embark on a sacred journey of learning to become higher and holier disciples of Christ. As we make covenants in holiness before God and commit to follow the Savior, we receive the power to change our hearts, renew our spirits, and deepen our relationship with Him. Such an endeavor brings sanctification to our souls and forms a sacred bond with God and Jesus Christ, who promise that we can inherit the gift of eternal life. The result of this sacred journey is that we obtain a holier and higher confidence for our day-to-day lives within our covenants made through Jesus Christ."

Elder Ulisses Soares Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, April 2024

In my view Enduring to the end simply means that once we are headed in the right direction in any worthwhile part of our lives, we don't deviate from that in negative ways. There will be temptations and trials but we need to get past those. Enduring to the end is not a negative thing it's a very good thing that can become difficult at times but we need to keep going or quickly returning to going in the right direction.

Ask yourself this question: What can you possibly do that will be better for you in any way than Enduring to the end? It's a good thing.

Yesterday was another quiet day. We walked at University Place then it seemed like our devices were a little off. Usually a lap around the whole inner mall is about one mile or roughly 2000 steps. Cathy's was doing fine but for some reason I was only showing about 1800 steps on my "workout" reading on my watch. But my steps under "activities" were about right. Anyway, Cathy seemed to want to drive to the Apple Store at Fashion Place Mall so we did. Cathy drove and I pondered my watch and phone. Without going into a lot of detail I will say the problem seems solved but I won't be sure until I walk with her today and compare "workout" results.

Later we will work at the Bishops Storehouse.

Or friend, Ron McDonald, passed away a couple of days ago and his funeral will be tomorrow. Cathy wants to go so I tried to get a substitute for my temple shift. I got one offer to trade so instead of working at the temple tomorrow, I will go to the funeral and work at the temple on the late shift this Saturday night.  Actually looking forward to that.

D&C 13:1 Upon you my fellow servants, in the name of Messiah I confer the Priesthood of Aaron, which holds the keys of the ministering of angels, and of the gospel of repentance, and of baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; and this shall never be taken again from the earth, until the sons of Levi do offer again an offering unto the Lord in righteousness.

"Restored priesthood authority and power to bless all His children is a third dimension of covenant belonging. In this dispensation, John the Baptist and the Apostles Peter, James, and John have come as glorified messengers from God to restore His priesthood authority. God’s priesthood and His ordinances sweeten relationships on earth and can seal covenant relationships in heaven."

He was the "Car Czar" in Ventura just as I was during our mission at Louisville. Looking forward to swapping experiences when they get settled back in at home. Their talks were very good and we enjoyed them.

D&C 12:8 And no one can assist in this work except he shall be humble and full of love, having faith, hope, and charity, being temperate in all things, whatsoever shall be entrusted to his care.

"Some suppose that humility is about beating ourselves up…We don’t discover humility by thinking less of ourselves; we discover humility by thinking less about ourselves. It comes as we go about our work with an attitude of serving God and our fellowman.

Humility directs our attention and love toward others and to Heavenly Father’s purposes. Pride does the opposite. Pride draws its energy and strength from the deep wells of selfishness. The moment we stop obsessing with ourselves and lose ourselves in service, our pride diminishes and begins to die."

In addition, some members elevate causes, many of which are good, to a status superior to basic gospel doctrine. They substitute their devotion to the cause as their first commitment and relegate their commitment to the Savior and His teachings to a secondary position."

I jokingly refer to my work week as being Tuesday through Wednesday (yes, two days) in that I serve in the Bishops Storehouse on Tuesday afternoons and in the temple on Wednesdays from 9 am to 2 PM.

It is now Thursday morning so I have the ability to take some time to write in my journal so here I am.

Cathy is feeling pretty good and she is getting ready to have our grand daughters, Erica and Jill, over for a valentines day tea this Saturday. After helping as much as possible, I went to UP mall and walked. I again enjoyed serving in the temple yesterday. The Mt Timpanogos temple has got to be of not the busiest, one of the busiest temples in the world. We have for instruction rooms where Endowment sessions are held every thirty minutes throughout the day. Each room has at least 98 seats and each session has around 80 or more patrons. It's very well managed by a wonderful temple presidency and matrons. More temples are being built around the world and we are doing our best to help the Lord hasten His work. I'm really pleased to be a part of it.

63 And this I do that I may establish my gospel, that there may not be so much contention; yea, Satan doth stir up the hearts of the people to contention concerning the points of my doctrine; and in these things they do err, for they do wrest the scriptures and do not understand them.

"The Lord’s prescribed methods of acquiring sacred knowledge are very different from the methods used by those who acquire learning exclusively by study. For example, a frequent technique of scholarship is debate or adversarial discussion…But the Lord has instructed us in ancient and modern scriptures that we should not contend over the points of his doctrine. Those who teach the gospel are instructed not to preach with “wrath” or “strife,” but in “mildness and in meekness,” “reviling not against revilers.” Similarly, techniques devised for adversary debate or to search out differences and work out compromises are not effective in acquiring gospel knowledge. Gospel truths and testimony are received from the Holy Ghost through reverent personal study and quiet contemplation."

D&C 110:20 Verily, verily, I say unto you, that Satan has great hold upon their hearts; he stirreth them up to iniquity against that which is good;

21 And their hearts are corrupt, and full of wickedness and abominations; and they love darkness rather than light, because their deeds are evil; therefore they will not ask of me.

22 Satan stirreth them up, that he may lead their souls to destruction.

23 And thus he has laid a cunning plan, thinking to destroy the work of God; but I will require this at their hands, and it shall turn to their shame and condemnation in the day of judgment.

24 Yea, he stirreth up their hearts to anger against this work.

25 Yea, he saith unto them: Deceive and lie in wait to catch, that ye may destroy; behold, this is no harm. And thus he flattereth them, and telleth them that it is no sin to lie that they may catch a man in a lie, that they may destroy him.

26 And thus he flattereth them, and leadeth them along until he draggeth their souls down to hell; and thus he causeth them to catch themselves in their own snare.

"The first casualties of human wrath are truth and understanding. James counseled that we be “swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.” As Enoch observed, God’s throne is one of peace, justice, and truth. Whether they be false friends or unrighteous teachers, artists or entertainers, commentators or letter writers to local newspapers, seekers of power or wealth, beware of those who stir us up to such anger that calm reflection and charitable feelings are suppressed."

"My beloved friends, our prayers are our sweetest hour, our most “sincere desire,” our simplest, purest form of worship. We should pray individually, in our families, and in congregations of all sizes. We are to employ prayer as a shield against temptation, and if there be any time we feel not to pray, we can be sure that hesitancy does not come from God, who yearns to communicate with His children at any and all times. Indeed, some efforts to keep us from praying come directly from the adversary. When we don’t know how or exactly for what to pray, we should begin, and continue, until the Holy Spirit guides us into the prayer we should be offering. This approach may be the one we have to invoke when praying for our enemies and those who despitefully use us."

Obey the Master’s counsel to “study it out in your mind.” Often you will think of a solution; as you seek confirmation that your answer is right, help will come. It may be through your prayers, or as an impression of the Holy Ghost, and at times by the intervention of others."

Come Follow Me

D&C 8:2 Yea, behold, I will tell you in your mind and in your heart, by the Holy Ghost, which shall come upon you and which shall dwell in your heart.

3 Now, behold, this is the spirit of revelation; behold, this is the spirit by which Moses brought the children of Israel through the Red Sea on dry ground.

"The Spirit speaks to different people in different ways, and He may speak to the same person in different ways at different times. As a result, learning the many ways He speaks to us is a lifelong quest. Sometimes, He speaks to our “mind and in [our] heart” in a voice that is small yet powerful, piercing “them that … hear to the center.” Other times His impressions “occupy [our] mind[s]” or “press … upon [our] feelings.” Other times our bosom will “burn within [us].” Still other times He fills our souls with joy, enlightens our minds, or speaks peace to our troubled hearts."

Yesterday was another quiet day. Did a few things around the house and shine reading.

Come Follow Me

Alma 36: 3 And now, O my son Helaman, behold, thou art in thy youth, and therefore, I beseech of thee that thou wilt hear my words and learn of me; for I do know that whosoever shall put their trust in God shall be supported in their trials, and their troubles, and their afflictions, and shall be lifted up at the last day.

"Holiness to the Lord makes daily living sacred. It draws us closer and happier to the Lord and each other and prepares us to live with God our Father, Jesus Christ, and our loved ones.

As did my friend, you may wonder if your Heavenly Father loves you. The answer is a resounding, absolute yes! We can feel His love as we make holiness to the Lord ours each day, happy and forever. May we do so, I pray in the sacred name of Jesus Christ, amen."

Elder Gerrit W. Gong Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, October 2024

We have been counseled by The Lord  to stand in holy places. While there may be times when that is not happening, I think we can correct those situations by constantly remembering to strive to stand in Holy Places wherever they may be. Often we can make wherever we stand a holy place.

D&C 6:36 Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.

37 Behold the wounds which pierced my side, and also the prints of the nails in my hands and feet; be faithful, keep my commandments, and ye shall inherit the kingdom of heaven. Amen.

"Our personal connection to Jesus Christ will give us the courage and confidence to move forward amid people who do not respect our beliefs or who bully us. Christ invites us to keep Him in our thoughts constantly; He tells us, “Look unto me in every thought.” Thinking about the Savior gives us clarity of mind to make decisions, to act without fear, and to say no to what is contrary to God’s teachings. When my day is difficult and I feel like I can’t take any more, thinking about Christ brings me peace and gives me hope."

I enjoyed my shift at the temple yesterday. Otherwise a pretty uneventful day. Today we don't have much planned other than walking probably at University Place. The weather has been a little warmer lately but it's cooling again.

Come Follow Me

D&C 6:33 Fear not to do good, my sons, for whatsoever ye sow, that shall ye also reap; therefore, if ye sow good ye shall also reap good for your reward.

34 Therefore, fear not, little flock; do good; let earth and hell combine against you, for if ye are built upon my rock, they cannot prevail.

"Brothers and sisters, our goodness—our every righteous endeavor—our good works, our obedience, and our efforts to bless others must be anchored in and driven by our faith in Christ, our testimonies of his mission and sacrifice, and our willingness to move off our comfortable plateaus...

Satan wants us to fail to reach that mountaintop that will allow us to develop a testimony so powerful that he will be unable to influence us. His work is to thwart our efforts, but the Lord has counseled us, “Fear not, little flock; do good; let earth and hell combine against you, for if ye are built upon my rock, they cannot prevail”.

We have every confidence that earth and hell will not overtake you, but it will require that you move from your current plateaus and climb to higher ground."

We drove by the Lindon Temple yesterday. I think all temples are very attractive but this one is, to me, more attractive than most. It has the classic look of an older temple but I'm sure it will be very nice inside. Looking forward to the possibility of serving there as an Ordinance Worker.

We did our service at the Bishops Storehouse yesterday afternoon then assister Becky Hainey joined us for dinner afterwards at at Spicy Thai restaurant.

Looking forward to serving today in the Mt Timpanogos temple. Yesterday and today are, jokingly, my regular work week. Then I have Thursday through Monday as my proverbial weekend.

Come Follow Me

D&C 6:22 Verily, verily, I say unto you, if you desire a further witness, cast your mind upon the night that you cried unto me in your heart, that you might know concerning the truth of these things.

23 Did I not speak peace to your mind concerning the matter? What greater witness can you have than from God?

24 And now, behold, you have received a witness; for if I have told you things which no man knoweth have you not received a witness?

"Today the struggle continues. Secular voices are growing in volume and intensity. They increasingly urge believers to abandon beliefs the world considers irrational and unreasonable. Because “we see through a glass, darkly” and “do not know the meaning of all things,” at times we may feel vulnerable and in need of greater spiritual assurances...The Lord reminded Oliver and us to rely on sacred personal witnesses already received when our faith is challenged. Like Moses’s, Alma’s and Joseph’s before, these divine encounters serve as spiritual anchors to keep us safe and on course in times of trial."

Elder Paul B. Pieper Of the Seventy, April 201

"One of the great lessons that each of us needs to learn is to ask. Why does the Lord want us to pray to Him and to ask? Because that is how revelation is received."

Cathy found an interesting breakfast spot called Early Owl in Salt Lake City. We went there yesterday and really enjoyed it. It was a nice quiet restaurant with decent prices and very nice background music. Good food options too. It's at 155 E. 900 South.

Then we walked at Fashion Place Mall and Cathy got some help with her apple watch that she was having problems with. The only closest Apple Store to our home is at Fashion Place Mall. Wish there was one here in Utah County.

Come Follow Me

D&C 6:13 If thou wilt do good, yea, and hold out faithful to the end, thou shalt be saved in the kingdom of God, which is the greatest of all the gifts of God; for there is no gift greater than the gift of salvation.

"I humbly bear witness to you today that an honorably completed mission, a celestial marriage, a valued testimony, a position of major responsibility in the Church are not destinations in the lives of true Latter-day Saints. They can be important aids in eternal progression. They will not save you and me in the kingdom of God. Only living the life of a faithful Latter-day Saint will make that possible."

Elder Marvin J. Ashton Of the Council of the Twelve Apostles, April 1972

That's an interesting statement. I also believe that living a celestial marriage, which in my view extends beyond simply getting sealed in the temple, and maintaining a valued testimony are gigantic parts of "living the  life of a faithful Latter-Day Saint". But Elder Ashton's point is that we need to live the life of a faithful Latter-Day Saint in every aspect of our lives with all that that entails. It's a good thing and a laudable goal.

D&C 6:14 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, blessed art thou for what thou hast done; for thou hast inquired of me, and behold, as often as thou hast inquired thou hast received instruction of my Spirit. If it had not been so, thou wouldst not have come to the place where thou art at this time.

15 Behold, thou knowest that thou hast inquired of me and I did enlighten thy mind; and now I tell thee these things that thou mayest know that thou hast been enlightened by the Spirit of truth; 16 Yea, I tell thee, that thou mayest know that there is none else save God that knowest thy thoughts and the intents of thy heart.

Yesterday was another nice quiet Sunday. Fast and Testimony meeting and Sunday School. Having it run from 1330 - 1430, in a sense really wipes out the day. In another sense it makes it easier to just stay home, visit with each other and study and read.

Cathy enjoys watching her TV shows on Sunday evenings and last night was no exception. She didn't get to bed until around midnight and so when I got up this morning I snuck over to Del Taco and got my egg and cheese breakfast burrito. Cathy's still asleep of course and I'm a happy camper.

35 Behold, I do not condemn you; go your ways and sin no more; perform with soberness the work which I have commanded you.

36 Look unto me in every thought; doubt not, fear not.

Also: D&C 6:7 Seek not for riches but for wisdom, and behold, the mysteries of God shall be unfolded unto you, and then shall you be made rich. Behold, he that hath eternal life is rich.

"Almost 2,000 years ago, a rich young man asked an extremely important question of the Savior: “Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?”

Having “heard” the Savior’s instructions and His gentle invitation to “come and follow me,” the rich young man “went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.”

Tragically, millions in the world today still prize and choose “the riches of the earth” over the “riches of eternity,” not knowing or fully understanding that “he that hath eternal life is rich,” and that eternal life is God’s greatest gift to man. Simply stated, eternal life is to live forever as families in the presence of God."

We enjoyed our double temple sessions yesterday... Initiatories at 0730 and Endowment at 0830. Cathy got five Initiatories completed but I only got three. The men's side was busier than I've ever seen it. Even though I was scheduled for 0730 and was actually ready to go at 0715, I didn't get into a booth until 0750. Our temple, Mt Timpanogos, one of the biggest in the church but it is also one of the busiest and that's really a good thing when you think about it. We have four "Instruction" rooms where endowment sessions are held. Each instruction room has 98 seats and we run a new endowment session every thirty minutes. Most of the sessions have over 80 patrons.

Yesterday morning our four male Initiatory rooms were running at capacity.

I assume it will help when our Lindon Temple gets running later this year and the new Lehi temple is under construction along with the new Provo Rock Canyon Temple. These are exciting times when you think about it.

Come Follow Me

D&C 5:21 And now I command you, my servant Joseph, to repent and walk more uprightly before me, and to yield to the persuasions of men no more;

"In several revelations the Lord rebuked Joseph Smith, David Whitmer, and others for not having their minds on the things of God, for yielding to “the persuasions of men,” and for being “persuaded by those whom I have not commanded."

Elder Dallin H. Oaks Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, April 1989

Such an endeavor brings sanctification to our souls and forms a sacred bond with God and Jesus Christ, who promise that we can inherit the gift of eternal life."

Every once in awhile I will look at my previous journal entry and see that, like yesterday, it just isn't there. I try to save the entries properly but sometimes I apparently fail. Fortunately there's not much going in my life that is noteworthy but I will note that Cathy and I had lunch at the Trellis restaurant in American Fork yesterday.

She has a condition called Celiac that means mostly that she can't eat anything with gluten in it. Wheat has gluten and other things do as well, but anyway, she got severely "glutened" yesterday and had a very difficult afternoon and evening. Fortunately she seems to be much better today and we are still going to the temple this morning for Initiatories at 0730 and an 0830 Endowment session.

I'm Come Follow Me

D&C 4:5 And faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God, qualify him for the work.

"We don’t need spiritually weak and semicommitted young [people]. We don’t need you to just fill a position; we need your whole heart and soul. We need vibrant, thinking, passionate missionaries who know how to listen to and respond to the whisperings of the Holy Spirit. This isn’t a time for spiritual weaklings. We cannot send you on a mission to be reactivated, reformed, or to receive a testimony. We just don’t have time for that. We need you to be filled with “faith, hope, charity and love, with an eye single to the glory of God.”

Elder M. Russell Ballard Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, October 2002
