Journal Entry:

I'm not sure why but some of my blog entries are not being saved. I believe I created one for yesterday and it's gone. If I think of or remember anything I'll try to get it in today or later.

I've not been feeling well for the past few weeks due to, I think, a pinched nerve or nerves in my lower spine. I'm either in pain or just feel weakness in my left lower back or hip or thigh or knee or any combination thereof. Because of that, I did not serve in the Bishops Storehouse again yesterday.

This is going to be a somewhat disjointed Entry. I'll write whatever comes into my elderly brain in whatever order I think of it.

Yesterday, my nephew, Craig, and I gave a blessing to Beth. She has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is scheduled for a "lumpectomy" this morning. It is believed that her condition was discovered early and that this morning's procedure will take care of her situation but with cancer you never know. Our brother, Bob, who is ten years younger than I died of cancer not too long ago so we are concerned.

This morning I'm taking our Prius in for its 100,000 mile service. It's been a great car and we hope to keep it that way.

Come Follow Me

Alma 1: 30 And thus, in their prosperous circumstances, they did not send away any who were naked, or that were hungry, or that were athirst, or that were sick, or that had not been nourished; and they did not set their hearts upon riches; therefore they were liberal to all, both old and young, both bond and free, both male and female, whether out of the church or in the church, having no respect to persons as to those who stood in need.

"The Church of Jesus Christ is under divine mandate to care for the poor. It is one of the pillars of the work of salvation and exaltation...

The Church responds to this charge in a wide variety of ways, including:

the ministering we do through Relief Society, priesthood quorums, and classes; fasting and the use of fast offerings; welfare farms and canneries; welcome centers for immigrants; outreach for those in prison; Church humanitarian efforts; and the JustServe app, where it’s available, that matches volunteers with service opportunities."

Sharon Eubank, First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency, October 2021

Alma 4: 8 For they saw and beheld with great sorrow that the people of the church began to be lifted up in the pride of their eyes, and to set their hearts upon riches and upon the vain things of the world, that they began to be scornful, one towards another, and they began to persecute those that did not believe according to their own will and pleasure.

"We are often unaware of the distractions which push us in a material direction and keep us from a Christ-centered focus. In essence we let celestial goals get sidetracked by telestial distractions."

Elder Quentin L. Cook Of the Seventy, October 1996
