072024, Saturday

Vitals: Weight 218.2; GMI 7.1

Journal Entry

We walked up in Provo Canyon yesterday and for the day I got in over 9000 steps... by far the most daily steps since my surgery.

My GMI is now down to 7.1 and my glucose readings seemed lower for the last two days. Dr. Welch communicated with me that he thought I needed to be on daily insulin injections but maybe my new readings are indicating that might not be needed. We'll see where we are on Monday and go from there. I'm OK with the insulin injections if needed but, of course, I think I'd rather not if possible.

When we got home, I noticed a fly in our kitchen area and we normally don't have flies. A year or so ago, Jake bought me a salt gun which is an air gun designed to shoot salt at flies. I've used it maybe twice before and it's very effective and sort of fun. I mean if your going to use a fly swatter, why not have some fun and shoot the flies with a salt gun. It's actually less messy too. The flies are disabled if not dead and you just scoop them up with a napkin or tissue. So I used the salt gun and now I'm 3 for 3 on neutralizing flies.

Book of Mormon review (review of earlier Come Follow Me assignments): Alma 10

Come Follow Me

Alma 31: 31 O Lord, my heart is exceedingly sorrowful; wilt thou comfort my soul in Christ. O Lord, wilt thou grant unto me that I may have strength, that I may suffer with patience these afflictions which shall come upon me, because of the iniquity of this people.

"Much of our suffering is not necessarily our fault...Opposition is part of Heavenly Father’s plan of happiness. We all encounter enough to bring us to an awareness of our Father’s love and of our need for the Savior’s help.

The Savior is not a silent observer. He Himself knows personally and infinitely the pain we face…Sometimes in the depth of pain, we are tempted to ask, “Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there?” I testify the answer is yes, there is a physician. The Atonement of Jesus Christ covers all these conditions and purposes of mortality."

Elder Kent F. Richards Of the Seventy, April 2011
