Vitals: Weight 217.1; GMI 7.1

Journal Entry

My glucose readings are pretty consistent but higher than they have been. I'm trying to eat well and feel that I am but my glucose levels were around 150 all day yesterday. Before my surgery I was usually in the 135-140 range. I may have to go on insulin if the levels stay high. Right now I'm at 139 so maybe there is hope. I'm 78 years old and am advised that all sorts of heart and kidney issues will start manifesting if my glucose levels are too high. I'd like to make it to 90, or another 11-12 years or more if possible. I've been relying on medication and good luck for too long now... sneaking in the occasional cookie, etc. I'm going to stop that.

Anybody reading this should try to avoid becoming diabetic. I've lived with it for decades now and it may yet be the factor that seals my fate. It's no big deal until it's too late. I've lost weight and that has helped but I've reached a point where extra care is needed. I'm pretty active and otherwise healthy for my age but now I'm going to have to be even more careful with how and what I eat.

I wish there was a cure for diabetes but for now, once you get it you've got it for life.

Book of Mormon review (review of earlier Come Follow Me assignments): Alma 12

Come Follow Me

Alma 32: 15 Yea, he that truly humbleth himself, and repenteth of his sins, and endureth to the end, the same shall be blessed—yea, much more blessed than they who are compelled to be humble because of their exceeding poverty.

"God will have a humble people. Either we can choose to be humble or we can be compelled to be humble…
Let us choose to be humble.
We can choose to humble ourselves by conquering enmity toward our brothers and sisters, esteeming them as ourselves, and lifting them as high or higher than we are…by receiving counsel and chastisement…by forgiving those who have offended us…by rendering selfless service…by going on missions and preaching the word that can humble others…by getting to the temple more frequently…by confessing and forsaking our sins and being born of God…by loving God, submitting our will to His, and putting Him first in our lives."

President Ezra Taft Benson, President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, April 1989
